Seminar: The Transformative Potential of Cultural-Historical Activity Theory

In this seminar, Prof. Mbelani from Rhodes University, in Makhanda, South Africa presented his recent work using C.H.A.T. methodologies to conduct research on multi and trans-languaging amongst learners of different ages in South African schools. The seminar was a well-attended hybrid event, in which some of Prof. Mbelani’s post-graduate students also presented papers from their work in progress. The conscious decision to have emerging academics present alongside established professors is one of the ways in which TRIP members contribute to the professional development of emerging researchers. An ethos of lifelong learning, and valuing what all scholars bring to the academic space underpins all that we do.
